Introduction

The National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal is India’s one of the best dairy research institute. This institute also plays a key role in increasingly the milk sector or dairy products with its continuous research. ICAR NDRI started as an imperial institute of animal husbandry and Dairying in 1923 in Bangalore.

In 1955 ICAR NDRI headquarters shifted to Karnal. NDRI offers a lot of degree or diploma programmes in the dairy sector. The courses in University have a vast future ahead which helps the nation in dairy production too.

Admission Process in NDRI

National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal provides admissions to diploma, B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc and M.V.Sc and Ph.D programmes. In order to get admission to NDRI students must have to meet the eligibility Criteria of the University. Admissions for diplomas will be based on the performance of the candidate’s entrance exam.

Admission criteria

Diploma – The admission of the diploma will be based on the merit list and performance of the candidate in the entrance exam.

B.Tech, M.Tech, M.sc, M,V, SC. – Candidates for these programs are also selected by the entrance exam conducted by ICAR.

P.hd – For P.hd admission candidates also have to give an entrance exam.

Facilities in ICAR NDRI

Hostels

National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal provides separate hostels for both boys and girls. Both hostels have fully furnished rooms along with a common room. Students also have a hobbies centre, reading room and indoor-outdoor sports complexes to access.

Boys hostel have strength of 150 beds and girls hostel have strength of 50 beds. Both hostels are inside campus. Married scholar hostel is also available for Ph.D. Scholars sponsored by other universities.

Library of ICAR NDRI

The institutions have one National library and one divisional library. Both libraries have a rich collection of books mainly comprised of 91,881 volumes which includes 52,010 books and 33,457 bound journals and most of them focus on related subjects.

The library also offers the facility of internet browsing, old documents and reference literature.

Cafeteria

NDRI offers a hygienic cafeteria for their students. The cafeteria serves good quality food and they also have different kinds of varieties there too. Students and Staff can access it as per their need.

Wifi Campus

The University has a fully Wi-Fi campus. Students can access wifi for their use. Wi-Fi also helps students to get connectivity for their practical work.

Laboratories of ICAR NDRI

NDRI have department-based laboratories, all laboratories have different kinds of technology which help students to work more on their skills.

Waiting Room

NDRI provides a waiting room with 10 double-bed AC rooms. All rooms are well furnished and comfortable for guests to stay.

Auditorium

The university also has a well-furnished and fully air-conditioned Auditorium. The auditorium is used for various purposes such as extension lectures and many cultural events.

Health Complex in ICAR NDRI

ICAR NDRI has their own health complex that provides first aid facilities to students and staff in any case of emergency. The healthcare complex has well-trained nurses and fully equipped laboratories and some pharmacists.
