The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE Exam) is a national-level entrance test held on a yearly basis by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). It is a computer-based test that is used to assess candidates’ aptitude and understanding in several undergraduate courses, such as engineering, technology, architecture, and science.
The GATE test is held once a year, mostly in February. The test lasts three hours and consists of 65 multiple-choice and numerical response questions. The GATE score is valid for three years and is generally recognized by India’s top engineering and science universities for admission to postgraduate programs such as M.Tech, M.E., M.S., and Ph.D.
GATE scores are utilized for recruitment at public sector companies (PSUs) like ONGC, BHEL, HPCL, and others, in addition to academic courses. As a result, it is a highly competitive test, with lakhs of engineering graduates taking it each year.
